On Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.
On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.
Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

The best location with lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from. In the heart of the historic district, beautiful! Wakable distance to everything even a Lidl close by. Nice view of Mount Etna from our apartment. Would recommend it anytime and a big thank you to Ricardo, the owner, for his warm hospitality.

Catania is a South-European bigger town as I expected.
Catania is a South-European bigger town as I expected. Nice old town, historical buldings, huge churches, good walks around. I liked the weather (middle March, but nice warmish and sunny). Tranportation is convenient. The sightseeing was easy. The cousine and the restaurants were super . We just had really good meals anywhere. It was very easy to get around and to find the places we wanted to visit.

The dirt in the streets and noise caused by the car and motorcycle obsessed locals were something that made me want to get out of Catania ASAP. They say that the name of the 'black city' is caused by the ashes of the volcano, but it's easy to blame a lifeless object while littering the surroundings at the same time. The historical centre and old town are nice, but 1-2 days are just enough to take a small look around. Then, if you can, you take a bus (but public bus transportation is very chaotic here, no point of timetables even if you find anything), get to the central station, and go to some nice place: Siracusa, Taormina, Randazzo, etc. These smaller towns had each their own charm: Taormina, a gorgeous tourist magnet with breathtaking views and endless stairs, Siracusa, a true gem in the south-east, Randazzo, modest but cosy, and loved and cared by local people. Or, if you want to get around without wasting any nerves, pick a hotel near one of the metro stations: the subway train runs quite often and regularly.
To eat, pick a place not very far from main streets like via Etnea or via Garibaldi - like Trattoria del Cavaliere: they have really good food with very reasonable prices. And always, if you have finished eating, go ask for the bill yourself - this is just how things work in most restaurants.

Catania didn’t meet my expectations.
Catania didn’t meet my expectations. The city is being ruined with graffiti. We had a rental car but even paid parking is nearly impossible to find leaving you to walk on streets that do not feel safe or clean.

Like all other Sicilian cities, Catania has it's own characteristics. The people are friendly and helpful, and there are loads and loads of restaurants, serving different food, and reasonable prices. A simple 2 Euro granita, or a fresh strawberry ice cream eaten on a bench in the main square, or a walk down Via Etnea, are enough to pass the time in a relaxing way.

ideal for shopping, very very good food and nice people. but could be much much cleaner a pity realy because the city and its supburbs have much to offer.Acicastello, Acireale and Acitrezza are little gems worth visiting
we landed at catania and our flight was very late at night (passed midnight) it was wonderful to have a location in catania with easy self checking. the host was very nice and accommodating and very responsive. the appartement was in the center and it had everything you need if you want to spend some time in catania. we took a taxi from the airport then booked a car from Catania( company recommended by the host). I would definitely recommend as driving at night can be challenging in Sicily.
This hotel did exactly what we needed it to: It allowed us a place to rest overnight in quiet after a very very long travel day! The staff was as nice as they could be, coming to pick us up from the airport (which is very closeby) after multiple flight delays. It was clean and quiet and great for a flight layover. Note: It was as advertised, that is, it is very basic, so don't expect a luxury resort! But if you need a clean place to sleep near the airport, it fills the bill.
Perfect location - very short walk from the main sightseeings, but very quiet at night. They have indoor parking right next to the hotel. The breakfast was amazing - a lot of options and everything was super delicious! The lady at the front office - Paola is amazing! The most kind and helpful person we met during our Sicily trip! It was lovely meeting and chatting with her. If we ever get back to Catania we will definitely stay there again. Thank you, Paola!
We loved everything about our stay. It was the perfect way to end our holiday in Sicily. The villa was clean and cozy and the staff was so welcoming. It was an easy walk to the sandy beach through the orange trees. And the evening meal was excellent. We initially chose this place because it was an easy 20 minute drive to the airport, but it ended up being so much more. I would love to bring my family back and stay longer some day.
Best hostel I've stayed in the whole of Italy. Clean, spacious, tastefully decorated, full of character, homely atmosphere, large rooms/bathrooms, lovely lounge perfect to socialise and meet other travellers, right in the centre of Catania, everything at the doorstep. Salvo and his volunteers are the most welcoming people ever, my time in Sicily wouldn't have been the same hadn't I picked this hostel and met them. Thank you guys!
We booked this Hotel for our last night before we left Sicily because it's near the airport. It has a beach area in walking distance, which was nice but not the best water quality. There is free parking for cars. The dinner was outside in the garden which looked really pretty (we just saw it, ate elsewhere). Breakfast was okay but nothing special and little selection in my opinion. Staff was friendly.
It was an amazing experience staying at Casa Alessia. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Catania or the surrounding area. Great location and proximity to airport and main highways. Clean facilities and available parking. Extremely kind and welcoming hosts. They answered all of our questions timely and provided great recommendations. One of our favorite places we have stayed in Italy.
It's close to everything the train station and coach station less than five minutes the hotel very good the breakfast everything you want for 5€ good value.so we just went to Sicily no plans arrived at the hotel and Francesco was on reception asked if we had any plans follow his itinerary made the trip very memorable many thanks Francesco you made are holiday
This was our first stop in our Sicily tour and it was our favourite accommodation! Beautiful, romantic, stylish old room that made us feel like we were in Italy. It's better in person than the pictures! Our host Nini was also delightful. Very helpful and friendly and fun, with lots of great tips about Catania. Breakfast was also delicious and hearty.
Excellent service from all staff. Good location very easy to walk into the main area of town. Was given a map and shown a good walking route to get all the main sites and end back at the hotel. Really helped as we were only in Catania one day, so ensured we made the most of it. Also the airport transfer was excellent.
Very convenient to start journey in Sicily just after late flight or finish before early flight. Not the ultimate luxury, but the hotel provides everything needed for anyone preparing to take the plane, less than 1km from the airport terminal and with always available navette. Nice and helpful staff are also an asset.
Staying at Naca suite was by far the highlight of our trip to Sicily. Coming back to our room after a long day of exploring Catania and jumping in the hot tub was the best feeling, not to mention the amazing staff that made us feel welcome and taken care of. Highly recommended to those going to Catania/ Syracuse!
The hotel is very well located. If you are traveling by bus from Catania airport, the bus stops is nearby to the hotel, at around one minute walking. My room was excellent! Super clean and the bed very comfy. They offer a complete breakfast. The staff is very lovely and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay.
The hotel is convenient and comfortable, and the breakfast is delicious! But, the best part of our stay was the staff. We spent the month cycling around Sicily, with stays at the hotel at each end. Claudia was incredibly helpful to us on our last day in Sicily, making our trip end on a wonderful note!
Simple but clean rooms. A family staff ready to share with you suggestion of the city.
Great location, close to restaurant and market areas. Just a few walk from the direct bus to the airport from Catania.
Nice original painting, also oil ones, all around the hotel
Daphne and the entire staff were amazing!
Very friendly and knowledgeable about the beautiful Art Direction in the hotel and the places to visit in Catania, Sicily! We will absolutely return to this beautiful hotel on our next visit to Catania, Sicily!!
Hotel’s location is perfect, at the very centre of Catania, with easy access to the bus that goes to the airport. Very clean room. The staff was always at the reception desk and willing to assist with any problem or question we had.
